Lovely, funny, moving, road trip movie. Centres on a wine tasting tour of California, vastly better than I would have expected. A real find – thanks KB

Art house perfection from Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai. The direction, photography, characterisation, acting, soundtrack are all exceptional. It transports you to another place. I find it impossible to adequately describe. Have a look at the web site to get a taste of what it is like. On a scale of 1-10 this rates 15. This may be the best film I have seen.
A Grahame Green story filmed by Neil Jordan. A complex, mysterious and beautifully made film. From the title is could seem to be trite and in lesser hands perhaps would have been. But here it is really appealing. 8/10
Extraordinary, Korean film on the nature of existence. Very slow, serene, elegant. Unforgettable. Enchanting, as far removed from a Hollywood blockbuster as it is possible to imagine and all the better for it. For me this is more masterpiece than movie. 10/10
Halle Berry, in a light weight though fun film. Easy to watch and the effects are fun. Kind of female Batman, of course, but none the worse for that if you are in the mood.
I didn’t like End of the Affair- thought it didn’t do Greene justice. I really like his books, esp. Our Man in Havana – would love to see that adapted today.
Never read the book. If the book is that much better – it is now on my Xmas list!
